“Marhoff” is the nom de plume of a gentleman who, in his more pretentious moments, lists his occupation simply as “educator.” In reality he is just a geeky nerd. At age 11 (6th grade) he was know to others as “the kid who knows how to work the projector” and has remained in the field of instructional technology ever since. Now, 30-some-odd years later he’s generally called “the fat old guy who knows how to work the computers.”
Marhoff has worked for 2 museums, a university, a library, an arts center, a college and done some consulting for all of the above as well as a school district or two. Marhoff is a strong proponent of the computerization of educational and administrative systems and considers himself an advocate for quality, assessment and accountability in distance education.
In his own words:
“When I was in grade school, I wanted to be an astronaut. Then, as I got a little older, I realized I probably wouldn’t make the cut so I decided to become a marine biologist. When I was in high school I got a job working in a planetarium and suddenly realized – I just love buttons and lights. (Which rocket ships and submarines and planetaria have in abundance.) Today, computers have replaced buttons and lights in rocket ships and submarines and planetaria, so I work with computers instead.”
